Paolo Veneri

Paolo Veneri is Professor of Economic Policy and Director of the Social Sciences Area at the Gran Sasso Science Institute (L’Aquila, Italy). His research focuses on urban and regional development, with particular attention to urbanisation processes, economic and well-being inequalities, and the factors shaping regional development. He has worked extensively on definitions and metrics of urbanisation, spatial structure and functional economic areas. Prior to joining the Gran Sasso Science Institute, Paolo was Deputy Head of the Economic Analysis, Data and Statistics Division at the OECD Centre for Entrepreneurship, SMEs, Regions and Cities (Paris, France). In this role, he led the OECD programme on subnational analysis and statistics and the OECD Geospatial Lab, and served as Secretary of the Working Party on Territorial Indicators. Paolo holds a PhD in Economics from the Marche Polytechnic University, and he was an external professor of Urban and Regional Economics at Paris Dauphine University.
