Joachim Denil
Joachim Denil is an Associate Professor at the University of Antwerp, Belgium, in the department of Electronics-ICT of the Applied Engineering Faculty. He earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Industrial Engineering, Electronics-ICT from Karel de Grote Hogeschool and a bachelor’s in computer science from Vrije Universiteit Brussel. In 2013, he completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at the University of Antwerp. Before his current position, he served as an Assistant Professor (2017-2022) and held post-doctoral researcher positions at both the University of Antwerp (2014-2017) and McGill University (2013-2014).
Prof. Denil’s research focuses on developing enabling methods, techniques, and tools for designing, deploying, verifying, and evolving complex engineered systems. His research interests include modelling and simulation, particularly co-simulation, model validity, and performance modelling for cyber-physical systems.
As an active member of the modelling and the simulation community, Prof. Denil has co-organized numerous conferences, including serving as general chair for the Summer Simulation Conference. He regularly delivers keynotes and tutorials on modelling and simulation topics at international venues and serves as an associate editor for Transactions of the SCS: Simulation. His current research focuses on digital twin sustainability, continuous validation of digital twin models, and adaptive approximation techniques for real-time cyber-physical systems.
