Christophe Viavattene

He is Associate Professor of Environmental Sustainability, working at the interface of economic and physical sciences. He has worked at the Flood Hazard Research Centre for the last 17 years and has established research experience in the field of water and flood risk management at the National and European levels. Christophe has developed the current Multi-Coloured Manual database, allowing the generation of the new depth-damage curves. Christophe has also gained strong knowledge on techniques overseas (EU CONHAZ project) and in different contexts (coastal, urban and fluvial flooding) and co-developed a library of vulnerability indicators, data and methods. Christophe has also developed Geographic Information Systems and network analysis tools for assessing flood vulnerability and losses (INDRA Integrated Disruption Assessment model – EU RISC-Kit project); Christophe was also involved in the new MCM methodological development on the mental health costs of flooding. He is currently developing new methodology for groundwater flood risk evaluation, for flood performance certificate, surface water flood risk in arid region, air quality risk assessment
